Benefits of Non Profit Organizations

Having a non-profit organization builds a sense of community for the families and neighborhoods that that organization is situated in. When you build a sense of community, then there is a higher level of pride for the neighborhood, and when there is a higher level of pride in the neighborhood, you see a reduction in crime, a higher sense for community, which builds strong relationships among the people who live there and then in turn, you increase the basic economy, because businesses are attracted due to the reduce in crime. Because of this, the younger generation has a higher ambition to see that the community continues to thrive for future generations to come. As for the city of New Orleans, they continue to struggle to recover from pre and post Katrina. Social services were severely compromised before and after the storm. So having a non-profit organization is critical to the sustainability to not only the local economy, but to the health and well being of the citizenry. To be considered a non-profit organization, they must get the IRS code 501(c)3 code. This means that the majority of their operation is through volunteer, public donations, federal grants, and city and state grants. In other words, they are to serve a public need.
